Hola!
Yesterday I had a wonderful time down by the Tyne. The iconic tilting Millenium Eye bridge connecting Gateshead and Newcastle for foot passengers (and cyclists) has brought recognition to a river once known as a centre of industry. Interviewing Tony who operates the mechanism that rasies the bridge inorder to allow boats through, I got an idea of how complex the machine is, despite looking so simple. Check it out on the site.
Cheers

A Quaker in Newcastle
Oli interviewed a Quaker today. From Northern Ireland, Angus White spoke in great detail about the Quaker belief, its foundations, and how it is changing for him as he gets older. The move to Newcastle two years ago have also provided fresh changes to how he sees and practices his religion. Please feel free to visit the website and listen to the podcast for more information...

Newcastle is arguably one of the friendliest places in the UK - hence why we wanted to explore how diverse it is in terms of the benefits it offers to people who are disadvantaged. We spoke to manager of Stepney Bank Stables, Susan Tron, a horse-riding school located right in the heart of Newcastle. Its central location is the key to its success, giving disadvantaged inner city children the chance to experience something new and would normally require a car for transport and money! The fantastic thing about this place is that it offers the oportunity of full vocational training and even the possibility of a job afterwards.
Students in Newcastle watch out!
Harriet and Olly have been out interviewing students - trying to capture their experience of Newcastle and how diverse their journey has been from 1st year through to 3rd year. We wanted to discuss the highs and lows, what Newcastle has to offer that no other place does and what they will miss the most when they leave. We also asked them what their most important hours were in the day and how this changed during their university journey. enjoy!
